How to Use Baking Soda and Vinegar to Get Rid pf Toenail Fungus

Arianna Nguyen

Toenail fungus can be one of the most embarrassing problems to have, and it can seem like there is no good solution for eliminating the problem. There are many treatment options you can try, though, and one involves the use of baking soda and vinegar. This method may work for you, but it will take some time to be effective. Here are two things to know as you try this method for eliminating the fungus you have on your toenails.

1. The properties found in baking soda and vinegar

Baking soda and vinegar are two popular household products. Both are great for cleaning tasks around the house, but both are also great for treating infections and fungal problems with your skin.

Baking soda itself is not an antifungal ingredient. In other words, it does not kill the fungus found on toenails; however, it has other properties that make it ideal for treating toenail fungus, mainly the ability to prevent fungus from spreading and returning.

Vinegar, on the other hand, is antifungal. This means it has the ability to kill fungus and bacteria. While you can use plain white vinegar for this, apple cider vinegar may be a better option. Apple cider vinegar has the ability to clean the infected area and balance the pH level in your skin. In addition, it will kill the bacteria causing the fungus to live and grow in your toenail.

2. How to use these ingredients to eliminate your toenail fungus

Using these ingredients as a foot soak is the best way to treat the fungus you have. To do this, place one cup vinegar into a foot soak tub that is filled with water. Soak your feet in this mixture for 15 to 20 minutes.

Next, drain the foot bath and add fresh water along with four to five tablespoons baking soda. Return your feet to the bath and soak them for an additional 15 minutes. You should do this every morning and every evening until the toenail fungus is gone.

In addition, place some baking soda in the shoes that you wear. This will keep your shoes dry and may help you prevent spreading the fungus from your shoes back to your feet.

Trying natural remedies for toenail fungus is a safe and effective way to treat the problem. If you have any questions about the fungus you have on your toes, you can contact a podiatrist in your area, such as one from Rocky Mountain Foot & Ankle.

Getting Help With My Toes

I have never struggled with any serious medical problems, which is why I was a little apprehensive to head to the doctor when I noticed that my toes were itchy and inflamed. I didn't want to report a problem that would disappear on its own within a few days, so I decided to wait it out. Unfortunately, the issue continued to get worse until I could barely walk. I decided to visit a doctor, and he was a ton of help. He told me that I had developed a fungal infection, and that it could be serious if it wasn't treated. I got the help that I needed, and now my toes feel great. This blog is here to help other people to learn more about podiatry.
