Plantar Fasciitis Prevention

Arianna Nguyen

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most uncomfortable conditions that you can have with regards to your feet. It can lay you up for days if it gets too bad. But never fear, there are several preventative measures that you can take to avoid the discomfort from getting too extreme.

Take Care of Your Feet with Proper Footwear

If you don't take care of your feet, you can assume the worst: that your feet will eventually start to suffer again. What does taking care of your feet entail? Making sure you have the right shoes for one. People who suffer from plantar fasciitis need to make sure that their feet are well supported along the arch and at the heel. The most common method of ensuring this is either using orthotics to get proper arch support and heel cushioning or buying good quality inserts that you can slide into any pair of shoes you own. If you are on a budget, the inserts are recommended as they are transferable between pairs of shoes and do not wear quickly. However, if you want full support, you are better off paying for the orthotic shoes.

Reduce the Stress of Standing for Long Periods

Plantar fasciitis can also be aggravated by your work, especially if you are in an industry where you are required to be on your feet all day. Having the right shoes helps, but it is not the only thing that you can do. One thing that is often helpful, especially if you are standing in one place for long periods of time, such as a cashier or waitress, is to put a thick mat where you stand the most often. This, paired with the shoes, can alleviate a lot of the stress that you put on your feet causing the plantar fasciitis.

Stretch Your Feet

Lastly, do your best to stretch your Achilles tendon at the back of your heel. This is actually the tendon responsible for giving you the plantar fasciitis. But by stretching it out and making it suppler, you allow it not to get as stressed and can therefore go longer without pain. You can ask a doctor, physical therapist, or even a fitness instructor the best methods for stretching the Achilles tendon.

There you have it: three ways that you can help to prevent your plantar fasciitis from flaring up. If, however, the discomfort is getting to be too much, do not hesitate to go to a health practitioner at a clinic like Advanced Foot Clinic and get yourself checked out.

Getting Help With My Toes

I have never struggled with any serious medical problems, which is why I was a little apprehensive to head to the doctor when I noticed that my toes were itchy and inflamed. I didn't want to report a problem that would disappear on its own within a few days, so I decided to wait it out. Unfortunately, the issue continued to get worse until I could barely walk. I decided to visit a doctor, and he was a ton of help. He told me that I had developed a fungal infection, and that it could be serious if it wasn't treated. I got the help that I needed, and now my toes feel great. This blog is here to help other people to learn more about podiatry.
